Victoria Falls, Zambia- Day 2

Day 2 of our trip started with a little playground time followed by a safari drive through the national park.  We saw giraffe, zebras, buffalo, hippo, crocs, and many many other animals.  But most amazing of all....we saw the amazing white rhino!  Story below!

Baby J at 16 months.

K kids hanging out and having fun!

On the safari drive!

Break time along the Zambezi.  The little boy to the left is currently being adopted by some friends that we met at the lodge we're staying in.  They went on the safari with us.

Our guide knew that we wanted to see the white rhino.  Little did we know that they were under 24 hour armed guard to keep them away from poachers.  So while we were on our break he got on his phone with a few of his buddies and they told him where the rhinos were currently at.  So off into the backwoods of the bush to see the rhinos.  We were able to get off of the truck and walk back off of the road a little ways with an armed guard in front of and behind us.  They were so very sweet.  But a little part of me wondered if the guards were for us or for the rhinos! ;)

First sight of the white rhinos.  This one standing is a 2 year old male baby.  He is still nursing.  So below you will see mama laying on her side so that the baby can nurse.

Guess I never thought about how difficult it would be to nurse a rhino!

Not many people we know have ever been able to see a white rhino in the wild!

Joseph, our great guard!  (or better yet...the rhino's guard!)

Another one of the guards with us!

It was an amazing beginning part of day 2.  Stay tuned for the next post!
