Victoria Falls, Zambia- Day 1

This past week our family was blessed to be able to take a very much needed break from the mission field.  I don't think any of us realized how much our vacation was needed.  But we're thankful to serve a Savior who knows our needs and directs us accordingly if we listen.  On Thursday morning around 4:30am we left out for our 19 hour trip to the amazing Victoria Falls, Zambia!  Trips in Africa are not ever easy or predictable but we're thankful that the Lord had His hand over us for our entire journey.  We literally felt His hand guiding us and keeping us safe.  

It turn out that our first sight of this majestic place happened to coincide with the anniversary of David Livingstone's death 140 years earlier.  In our homeschool we've been learning about David Livingstone and talking about the work to spread the Gospel that he did here in central Africa.  He gave his life, literally, for the Lord.  And in the process He opened up the rest of Africa to mission work that had never been possible before.  How wonderful to be able to visit all of the sights and places that we've been learning about in our schooling.  David was also the first white man to discover Lake Nyassa (now known as Lake Malawi) and all of the area that we currently live in.  We're so thankful for pioneer missionaries who paved the way for work of Christ....work that we are now able to be a part of and participate in.

One can't help but worship the Lord when they face the might, power, magnificance, and splendor of the Victoria Falls.  

"For his invisible attributes, namely his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse." Romans 1:20

There is no question, no excuse, no possible way to view the miracles and wonder of this Earth and not fall down to worship the Creator.  Praise choruses and Bible verses just paraded through my mind as my eyes beheld a sight that few ever get the chance to see.  To God be the Glory forever and ever!

This picture is such a small part of the majestic falls.  From my estimate it shows about 1/8th of the size of the falls.  Maybe less.  Words and pictures simply can't do justice to them!

We hiked up to the top of the falls and the kids could watch as the great Zambezi came roaring into the area and fell over the Falls.  The falls are just behind CJ and SM in the picture above.

It was an amazing trip of a lifetime!
