Rainbow Medical Clinic and Village Visit

A few days ago Rainbow was blessed to have a visiting ER doctor from Ft. Worth, TX come out to do health assessments and checkups on all of our children and staff. Dr. Donna Ivey and her nurses Sherri and Emily were such a blessing to our orphanage.  They treated everyone who showed up, including many from the surrounding village. Afterward Dr. Ivey loaded up into the car with us and we took her to the village to show her a few cases that Jill has been monitoring and treating.  What a blessing it was to have Dr. Ivey, Sherri, Emily, and the amazing Charles Msukwa (you remember him from the Maula Prison ministry that we talk about).   Charles helps Dr. Ivey when she is in town. All of these have such servants hearts!

Dr. Ivey and Charles

Karen was Worm Girl!  ha!  She gave out the deworming medicine to all who came through!

This is the lady that Jill has been treating in the nearby village.  She fell into a fire due to an epileptic seizure and her wound refuses to heal.  

This is Lifton!  He is another baby that was not able to receive cleft palate/cleft lip repair in May due to malnourishment.  ConnectMed was able to put a plate in his mouth to aid in feeding.  We went to check on him and are praying that his weight and health are good for August 2!  Please pray for no sickness and for a good healthy weight!!!!!  

Lifton, his mother, his agogo (Grandmother), and his twin brother is in agogo's lap.  It appears to us that Lifton has passed his twin in weight!  We are very happy with his progress!!!

Praise God for His provisions and for allowing us to be the hands and feet for Him here in Malawi.  There is nothing more important, more fulfilling, more difficult, or more rewarding in the world!  We are the blessed ones for sure!

Gusu/Jidi Mobile Medical

A short term team from California of nearly 40 people are being escorted around Malawi by the amazing Sam Kawale of E-3 Worldwide this week.  Their first stop was to do a mobile medical clinic out at Gusu/Jidi villages.  Since it had not even been three weeks since the last mobile medical the crowd was not very big.  But still, needs were met, seeds were planted, and hopefully everyone was blessed by the event.

The team did eye exams and handed out eye glasses to those in need!  Very cool!

The dentist was a big hit with the kids.  They all received toothbrushes and were taught how to use them!

Everyone loves drinking from the running water faucet.  What a treat to remember that just a short while ago these same people had never seen running water from a pipe before!  

There are 8 different villages donating 10,000 bricks each to build their own secondary school and more teacher housing for the Gusu/Jidi school.  They are very excited to see their new school start to be built!

Here is the new addition to the multipurpose building.  This is a goat pen.  E-3 is raising goats!  Rainbow will probably start raising goats when we return in April.

Rainbow Medical Clinic

The Rainbow kids had a mini medical clinic this past weekend.  Verson, a clinical officer (think nurse practicioner) from ABC Clinic, was hired to come out to do medical assessments on the children.  We hope to do this at least yearly.  He did a complete physical and prescribed any meds that the children may need.  Many ear infections, tonsilitis, upper and lower respiratory infections, etc. were found.
